Minecraft Circle Chart

Minecraft has no round blocks, so every circle is built from squares. This Minecraft circle chart is a template for the sizes builds use most, drawn block by block, with how many blocks each one takes. A 15 block circle needs 40 blocks for the ring and 177 filled in. Pick a size, then copy the diagram or follow its step numbers.

Need a size the circle chart doesn't show, a thicker wall or a filled floor plan? The circle generator draws any size up to 128.

Block Counts by Diameter

Every size on this Minecraft circle chart has two counts. Outline is the ring one block thick, the number to gather for a wall or a tower. Filled is the whole disc, for a floor or a platform. A 40 block circle takes 140 outline blocks and 1264 filled, and a 100 block circle takes 304 and 7860; the table lists every size from 3 to 100. Sizes with no step numbers have a right-angle corner somewhere in the ring; draw those with the generator.

How to Read the Chart

32123
15 wide, steps 3 · 2 · 1 · 2 · 3 on the top-right quarter

Building from the step numbers

The step numbers under a size on the circle chart trace one quarter of its ring. Start on the centre block of the top row and place the first number of blocks to the right. Move one block diagonally down and right, place the next number, and keep going; the last numbers run down the side. Mirror that quarter three times and the circle is done.

Only 15 sizes between 3 and 100 can be built from numbers alone, and none is wider than 41: 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 25, 28, 31, 38, 41. Every other size has at least one spot where two outline blocks meet at a right angle, so follow its diagram or the generator instead. Those 15 also read as the roundest rings in game.

Odd and even sizes

An odd size has one centre block, marked on every diagram in the circle chart, which is where a pillar, a beacon or a spiral stair goes. An even size has a 2×2 centre instead, which suits a double door or a two-wide path. One block wider is not always more blocks: 20 wide takes 60 outline blocks, 21 wide only 56.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Minecraft circle chart?

A Minecraft circle chart shows how to lay out a circle in square blocks at different widths, with the number of blocks each one takes. This one draws the common sizes, lists block counts for every size from 3 to 100, and gives step numbers for the sizes that can be built from numbers alone.

How many blocks is a 15 block circle in Minecraft?

On the Minecraft circle chart, a 15 block circle takes 40 blocks as a one-block-thick ring and 177 blocks filled in. A 7 block circle takes 16 and 37, and a 31 block circle takes 84 and 749.

What do the numbers on a circle chart mean?

They are the lengths of the straight stretches in one quarter of the ring, starting from the centre of the top row. A 15 block circle reads 3 · 2 · 1 · 2 · 3: place 3 blocks to the right, step one block diagonally down, place 2, and so on, then mirror the quarter three times.

Should I use an odd or an even circle size?

Use an odd size when something has to stand in the exact middle, such as a pillar or a spiral stair: it has one centre block. An even size has a 2×2 centre, which suits a double door or a two-wide path. A 16 block circle takes 52 outline blocks against 40 for 15.

Which circle sizes look best in Minecraft?

The roundest rings are the sizes where the outline never doubles up at a corner. Between 3 and 100 blocks wide those are 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 25, 28, 31, 38 and 41. Every other size has at least one spot where two outline blocks meet at a right angle.

How many blocks is a 100 block circle?

A 100 block circle takes 304 blocks for the outline and 7860 filled. The downloadable chart draws every size up to 64, and the circle generator draws any size up to 128 with a thicker wall if you need one.

Does the chart work for Java and Bedrock?

Yes. A circle is only a pattern of full blocks on a flat grid, and both editions use the same grid, so every size builds the same way in Java and Bedrock, in survival or creative.
